About Zed
Zed is an open source code editor built for speed, collaboration, and AI assisted software development. The editor is written from scratch in Rust and is designed to make efficient use of multiple CPU cores and the GPU. Zed is available for macOS, Linux, and Windows.
Zed combines conventional code editing with built in AI assistance and agentic workflows. Developers can delegate coding tasks to agents that discover relevant context, edit files, navigate projects, and use development tools. Agent generated changes can be followed as they happen and reviewed through an editable unified diff before they are accepted.
Zed is not limited to a single AI model or coding agent. Developers can use Zed hosted models, connect their own model provider API keys, run local models through Ollama, or connect external coding agents through the Agent Client Protocol. Zed also supports Model Context Protocol servers for extending agents with additional tools and knowledge.
The editor includes multiplayer collaboration, native Git functionality, debugging through the Debug Adapter Protocol, remote development, language server support, extensions, an integrated terminal, and edit predictions powered by Zeta.
