Hookdeck
Webhook infrastructure for receiving, routing, monitoring, and delivering events, with Event Gateway for inbound traffic and Outpost for customer-facing outbound delivery.
About Hookdeck
Hookdeck provides infrastructure for applications that receive and send webhooks. Its Event Gateway sits between event producers and application endpoints, handling request verification, buffering, routing, transformations, and delivery retries. Developers can inspect event history, investigate failures, and replay events through the dashboard or API.
Outpost is Hookdeck’s separate product for sending events to customers. It supports tenant isolation, topic subscriptions, destination filters, and a customer portal for managing destinations and inspecting deliveries. Outpost is available as a managed service or as self-hosted Apache 2.0 software. Event Gateway and managed Outpost have separate subscription plans and billing.
Hookdeck also supports development workflows through its CLI for receiving webhooks on localhost. Its documentation covers third-party API routing, asynchronous APIs, and webhook-triggered AI workflows.
Key Features
- Inbound Request Verification: Event Gateway supports authentication and signature verification before incoming events reach application endpoints.
- Routing and Transformations: Filter events, modify payloads, and route a source to multiple destinations through configurable connections.
- Queueing and Delivery Controls: Buffer incoming traffic and control delivery rates to accommodate downstream capacity.
- Retries and Event Replay: Configure automatic retries, inspect delivery failures, and manually replay events through supported dashboard and API operations.
- Customer-Facing Event Delivery: Outpost provides tenant isolation, topic subscriptions, destination filters, and a portal for customers to manage their event destinations.
- Managed and Self-Hosted Outpost: Run outbound delivery through Hookdeck’s managed service or deploy the Apache 2.0 codebase on your own infrastructure.

Event Gateway Usage and Capacity: Team and Growth include 100,000 discarded requests per month; additional discarded requests cost $2.50 per million. Event retries are included. Each project includes five events per second of throughput per destination. Higher throughput carries an additional fee. Support SLA and solution engineering options are available as add-ons on Growth and Enterprise without published prices.
-
Event Gateway Trial: A 14-day trial allows inviting team members. Developer usage limits still apply during the trial. Account signup does not require a credit card.
-
Outpost Self-Hosted: Free Apache 2.0 software. Deploy and operate the software on your own infrastructure; hosting and operational costs are separate.
-
Outpost Starter: $10 per million additional events. Includes 50,000 monthly events, unlimited seats, uncapped throughput, and seven-day retention.
-
Outpost Growth: Starts at $499/month, plus $10 per million additional events. Includes 50,000 monthly events, 30-day retention, a 99.99% uptime SLA, SSO, SAML, SCIM, and regional options in the US, EU, and Asia.

Use Cases
- Receive third-party webhooks with buffering, retries, and delivery monitoring.
- Route and transform events between external services and application endpoints.
- Test webhook integrations locally using the Hookdeck CLI.
- Provide outbound webhooks and customer-managed event destinations through Outpost.
- Trigger AI workflows from webhooks and receive asynchronous events from AI providers.
Pros & Cons
Pros:
- Event Gateway combines routing, buffering, retry controls, and event inspection in one managed service.
- Outpost supports customer portals and delivery to HTTP endpoints, cloud queues, and event buses.
- Outpost offers managed hosting and an Apache 2.0 self-hosted option.
Cons:
- Event Gateway and managed Outpost require separate plans and billing when both products are used.
- Event Gateway retention and delivery capacity are limited by the selected plan and throughput configuration.
- Outpost does not provide built-in per-tenant delivery rates; those controls require capabilities at the destination.
Integrations
Outpost destinations: HTTP webhooks, Hookdeck Event Gateway, Amazon SQS, Amazon EventBridge, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon S3, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, Cloudflare Queues
FAQ
What is Hookdeck used for?
Hookdeck provides infrastructure for receiving, routing, monitoring, and delivering webhook events. Event Gateway handles incoming events, while Outpost supports outbound delivery to customers.
What is the difference between Event Gateway and Outpost?
Event Gateway manages incoming webhooks and events before they reach your application. Outpost sends your application's events to customer destinations and includes tenant isolation, subscriptions, and a customer portal. The products have separate plans and billing.
Does Hookdeck offer a free plan?
Event Gateway's Developer plan costs $0 per month and includes 10,000 monthly events, one user, and three-day retention. Managed Outpost Starter includes 50,000 monthly events before additional usage charges. Self-hosted Outpost is free Apache 2.0 software, with infrastructure costs handled by the operator.
Can Hookdeck retry failed webhook deliveries?
Yes. Event Gateway supports configurable automatic retries and event replay. Outpost supports automatic retries with exponential backoff or a custom schedule, plus manual retries through its portal or API. Both products include retries without additional event charges.
Can I self-host Hookdeck?
Outpost is available for self-hosting under Apache 2.0 and is distributed as a Go binary and Docker container. This self-hosting option applies to Outpost; Event Gateway is presented as a managed service.
Can my customers manage their own webhook destinations?
Yes. Outpost provides a tenant portal for managing destinations and inspecting events. Its JWT-authenticated API also supports building your own customer interface.
How does Outpost count billable events?
An event is counted for each destination delivery. If one published event is delivered to two destinations, it counts as two events. Retries are not charged, and additional usage is billed in 10,000-event chunks.
What happens when Event Gateway traffic exceeds its delivery capacity?
Events queue and are delivered as capacity becomes available. Exceeding the configured throughput increases delivery latency. Hookdeck states that queued events are not dropped within the retention window.
Can I test webhooks on localhost?
Yes. The Hookdeck CLI supports receiving and debugging webhooks on localhost during development.
Does Outpost support delivery beyond HTTP webhooks?
Yes. Supported destinations include Amazon SQS, EventBridge, Kinesis and S3, Google Cloud Pub/Sub, Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, Apache Kafka, Cloudflare Queues, and Hookdeck Event Gateway.
