Cloudflare Web Search API
Cloudflare Web Search API gives AI agents and applications structured, current web search results through one API with multiple search providers and AI Gateway integration.
About Cloudflare Web Search API
Cloudflare Web Search API is an API for adding current web search results to AI agents and applications. Applications submit a search query and receive normalized structured results that can include a URL, title, description, image, favicon, and last modified date when supplied by the selected search provider.
The API routes searches through Cloudflare AI Gateway and supports Ceramic.ai, Exa, and Linkup as search providers. Ceramic.ai is used by default when a provider is not specified. Because provider responses are normalized into a consistent result format, developers can change providers using the provider parameter without changing the result structure expected by their application.
Developers can call the API from any backend using a REST POST request to the /ai/websearch/ endpoint or from Cloudflare Workers using the AI binding and websearch() method. REST requests authenticate with a Cloudflare API token requiring Workers AI Read and AI Gateway Read permissions. Requests support queries up to 1,024 characters and return up to 10 search results.
Key Features
- Multiple Search Providers: Choose Ceramic.ai, Exa, or Linkup using the
providerrequest parameter, with Ceramic.ai used by default. - Normalized Search Results: Provider responses are converted into a consistent structure containing URLs, titles, descriptions, and optional metadata when available.
- REST API Access: Send POST requests to the
/ai/websearch/endpoint from backend applications. - Cloudflare Workers Integration: Call web search through the Workers AI binding using the
websearch()method. - AI Gateway Integration: Search requests run through AI Gateway for logging, analytics, billing, provider access control, and credential management.
- Bring Your Own Key: Store a Ceramic.ai, Exa, or Linkup provider API key in AI Gateway and reference it using a configured alias.
Pricing
-
Ceramic.ai: $0.25 per 1,000 requests Searches paid with AI Gateway credits are billed at the provider's list API price with no additional Cloudflare markup.
-
Exa: $7.00 per 1,000 requests Searches paid with AI Gateway credits are billed at the provider's list API price with no additional Cloudflare markup.
-
Linkup: $5.00 per 1,000 requests Searches paid with AI Gateway credits are billed at the provider's list API price with no additional Cloudflare markup.
Developers can alternatively bring their own provider API key, in which case the search provider bills usage directly under the developer's agreement with that provider.
